Matilda Gira
Person/en hinter dem label
Founded by Mao Márquez-Nikrmajer, Venezuelan-born and US-raised entrepreneur and certified mindset coach, Matilda Gira was born from a transformative journey to Chiapas, Mexico, where the founder discovered the art of traditional hat-making. Named after her grandmother, Matilde Márquez—a resilient teacher and mother—and inspired by Pomba Gira, the Afro-Brazilian goddess protecting women and children, the brand represents the fusion of family legacy and divine feminine energy.
Each Matilda Gira hat is crafted in Mexico and brought to life through direct collaboration with indigenous communities, particularly the Embera Chami people of Colombia. Handcrafted designs feature ancestral stories through traditional beadwork, blending cultural heritage with contemporary expression. We celebrate women who wear many hats in life—the leaders, dreamers, and advocates shaping the world around them.
